Updating OpenStreetMap
I feel somewhat pleased with myself, even though it’s for a small thing I have done in the past.
I regularly (once or twice a week) go to the Awanui Laboratories collection centre in the Porirua CBD for blood tests, but I couldn’t find the place by searching on OpenStreetMap. Of course, I knew where it was, so, last night I logged in, added the information and waited to see how long it would take to appear. It was there within a few minutes and is now in the daily update of map data I downloaded into the OsmAnd Map app on my phone this morning.
It hasn’t appeared on Organic Maps yet, but there doesn’t seem to be an updated map available for the app yet. It is in the Apple Maps and Google Maps apps, which would cover most people on their phones.
I think this use of open-source maps is so cool. I’ve added several buildings and structures to OpenStreetMap around Porirua, based on my personal knowledge of the place. It would be great if more people used this, including adding notes to the maps to help other people find locations or give tips on a place.
