As I look out the window to a very average, gloomy, ‘rain in the forecast’ day, while reading posts from Fediverse friends who have nothing but blue sky, I say “Good for you.” Make the most of it and have fun. I hope it stays for the weekend.

Unfortunately (or unfortunately), we have a three-day holiday weekend now in New Zealand. It’s Labour Day on Monday, which commemorates the fight for workers' rights and marks a significant event in the history of employer-employee relations in the country. The first Labour Day celebrations were held in 1890, following the successful campaign by Samuel Parnell for an eight-hour working day.

Pity for anyone who is camping, particularly in the South Island. It does reinforce the message that you should always check the weather forecast before heading for the hills. We’re staying dry and warm at home for the next few days. We have plenty enough to do here.
